Show Notes

This week, the guys welcome back Dr. John Trent for Part 2 of their conversation, diving deeper into his book and the practical importance of taking an honest look at our own hearts, motives, and choices.

Let’s be honest—most of us would rather avoid the hard questions. But there is incredible value in slowing down and examining who we are, why we do what we do, and how our choices are impacting the people closest to us.

When we’re willing to look inward, God can use what He reveals to help us become better husbands, fathers, leaders, and men who make a lasting impact.

The goal isn't just to become better for today. It's to build a Christ-centered legacy that impacts those around us for generations to come.

You like summer? It's summer. [00:01:41] Speaker C: Oh, I got to think about that. [00:01:44] Speaker B: Chance to think on that one. [00:01:45] Speaker C: Do you have one? [00:01:46] Speaker B: I do. I. It's. This is, this is a deep dive. I believe it's John Hughes. It's a John Cusack movie and it's one crazy summer. Oh, that's a great movie. And it's, it's just a phenomenal frolic [00:01:59] Speaker D: of the Godzilla scene. [00:02:00] Speaker B: Yes, all of it. I've Never seen gold twigs in it. And there's like, Goldwith. Goldthwaite. What? [00:02:06] Speaker C: Bobcat Goldthwait, not gold twig. [00:02:11] Speaker B: Sorry, Bob, if you're listening, I apologize. No, I'm listening. But I'd love to have you on the podcast, so. [00:02:17] Speaker C: Influence. [00:02:18] Speaker B: No, I just. I mean, it is like summer on the small island and it's all this absolute 80s tomfoolery, and it's a mix of, like, live action and these silly comedy cartoons. It's awesome. It's awesome. It's awesome. [00:02:33] Speaker C: I don't know why, but the. The movie title is. Is. It's a it. You're gonna, like, laugh when I explain the movie and I cannot think of the title, but it's. It's got Bill Murray. [00:02:46] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Keep going. [00:02:46] Speaker C: Golf movie. [00:02:48] Speaker B: Caddyshack. [00:02:49] Speaker C: Caddyshack. I don't know why I thought of it, but I was like, caddyshack. I love it. [00:02:52] Speaker B: In other news, we're looking for a new. [00:02:55] Speaker C: I'm so embarrassed. [00:02:56] Speaker B: I know the name. [00:02:56] Speaker C: I'm so embarrassed. I'm so embarrassed. [00:02:59] Speaker B: Such a great movie. [00:03:00] Speaker C: Such a great movie. [00:03:01] Speaker B: And again, it's a blending of a puppet and live action. Dangerfield. All of it was great. [00:03:06] Speaker C: It's a Cinderella story. It's a no. It's a no. I says to me a little bit, something for your favor here. He's like, I don't have any money, but I'll give you complete consciousness. Love it. So I got that going for me. [00:03:20] Speaker B: Kyle, how about you? [00:03:21] Speaker D: So still no camera? [00:03:23] Speaker C: Still no camera. [00:03:24] Speaker B: That's okay. [00:03:24] Speaker C: We couldn't fix it over a whole week. [00:03:26] Speaker D: Caddyshack, of all movies. I'll go with stripes. [00:03:29] Speaker C: Oh, okay. Good movie. Good movie. [00:03:32] Speaker B: We are definitely aging ourselves. [00:03:33] Speaker C: Yes, we are. [00:03:34] Speaker B: None of the big box office summer movies. Nothing like that. [00:03:38] Speaker C: Army training, sir. Oh, it's so good. Classic. All these young. These young millennials, they're like, what are you guys talking about? Just look up every Bill Murray movie. [00:03:51] Speaker B: This is like our parents talking about the black and white Mo grew up with, by the way. [00:03:54] Speaker C: Yes. Back in the day. Bridge Over River Kwai. [00:03:57] Speaker D: Gone with the Wind. [00:03:58] Speaker C: Gone with the Wind. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Well, hey, we are on part two this week with Dr. John Trent. We'd love to have. Grateful to have you on again, my friend. [00:04:09] Speaker D: Thank you. [00:04:10] Speaker C: We are so excited to have you on. You know, we had a great conversation and we were going to talk about the book. In the last one, I was like, you know what? Let's not. Because we had such a good line so if you didn't get a chance to listen to the last one, we'll put the link right here for, For. For the week before's podcast. But John, we know that you've written a bunch of books and we'd love you to share. So what are some of the. So I know you've written Broken the Blessed. What was the other book that you've written? [00:04:32] Speaker D: Well, I mean, before that. You guys are totally wrong in the whole movie thing. [00:04:36] Speaker C: Okay, I'm so sorry. I totally. [00:04:39] Speaker D: The best summer movie is Independence Day with Will Smith. You know, there's aliens, there's. There's things blow up, you know, and, And Bill Pullman who's like, plays the president. He was the same guy. And in. While you were sleeping, you know that and stuff. But anyway, he's the president, and if ever at the very end of the movie, he goes, this is our Independence Day. And. And they shoot down all the aliens. I mean, how can you. How can you miss that? I mean, that's like Die Hard, you know. [00:05:13] Speaker C: So I have failed you. No, because Die Hard's a Christmas movie, okay? [00:05:17] Speaker D: So I don't care what it says. I know for Christmas you have to say Die Hard, but for the summer you have to say Independence Day. But anyway. [00:05:23] Speaker C: That's a good one. I should have been in a barbecue. [00:05:26] Speaker B: Yes. [00:05:26] Speaker C: Oh, so good. You're right. Another good one. Man, I'm so glad you. That you. That you've called me out. [00:05:31] Speaker D: Correct. [00:05:32] Speaker C: Correct. [00:05:32] Speaker D: Yeah. Yes, corrected you. [00:05:35] Speaker C: Awesome. Well, share a little about your books. [00:05:37] Speaker D: What was the question? You guys actually had a question? [00:05:39] Speaker C: We're having too much fun here. I was saying, you know, you've written a few books. I know that you've written Broken the Blessed. We talked a little bit about that. I'd like to talk more about that book. But you also mentioned you've written some other books. What are, what are those books? [00:05:50] Speaker D: Well, I mean, I've had a couple of people say, you know, I've written more books than I've read, which is not true, by the way. Okay. But no, you know, I started off and, you know, I came to know Christ through, you know, young life. This wonderful guy that led me to crisis we talked about in the last episode is the difference we can make just in not only our own kids, but other kids lives. Well, so I go on to school and I kept working at Young Life. And here was the problem. I kept seeing these awesome kids come to know Christ. Okay, so Bill, you mentioned this summer you were at camp. You see These awesome kids turn their life over. Well, guess where they're going? Back home. [00:06:34] Speaker C: Yes. [00:06:35] Speaker D: And so for a lot of us that didn't grow up with, you know, it's a wonderful life and, you know, going back to a great home, a lot of them are going back to homes that aren't going to reinforce that kind of faith, you know, so what would happen was. So I decided, well, okay, I need to get some. I need to understand the Bible. So I went to Dallas Seminary. I was a Greek major because I got some bad advice and major. But that was a great experience. [00:07:02] Speaker B: Worst advice. [00:07:04] Speaker D: Yeah. Four years of. Back then, if you majored in Greek, you automatically had to minor in Hebrew. So that. Which I didn't know. I was a new Christian when I went to Dallas Seminary. And so. But anyway, then after seminary, I got my doctorate in marriage and family counseling because I figured, okay, I need to know God's word, but I need to know how to walk well with people. And so the first book I did was I'd been working in a psychiatric hospital. I know there's, you know, been some question. I was working there. [00:07:36] Speaker B: You were not a resident. [00:07:38] Speaker C: Shutter Island. [00:07:39] Speaker D: Yeah. So. But they did help me a lot while I was there. But. But the point is, is that I just. I read Genesis 27, and there were these two twins. I'm a twin, so I like that story. And one of them gets the blessing, one of them misses it. And so the first book I did was the Blessing. And then every other book I've done since then kind of tags onto that. In other words, I did a book. I came up with a thing so people would say, like, there's five things that are part of the blessing. Can I go over them real quick? [00:08:14] Speaker C: Please, please, please. [00:08:15] Speaker D: Okay. So there's are, you know, appropriate, meaningful touch. Now, not just give them a hug, put your hand in their shoulder, but how do you look at them? Because that's how you first touch somebody, whether you realize it or not, is how do you look at it? We mentioned that the last time. [00:08:32] Speaker B: Brilliant. [00:08:33] Speaker D: Yeah. So you touch it, but then there's. Say it. Spoken words. Now, you can write it down, you can text it, but, boy, people need to hear from somebody that they're loved, that they're valuable. That's the third one attaching high value. Did you grow up in a home where somebody really felt like, now, maybe you were different. You know, you weren't as good an athlete as the older one, but you were really good at something. Did you hear that you had high Value, man. We need to hear that. And then what that begins to do with our touch, with our words that attach. I've. That helps you understand you really. Maybe. Maybe I do have a special future out there, because that's what God says about it. But we need to hear it from loved ones, too. We do have a future. And then the last one is genuine commitment. I'm not going anywhere, you know, and, you know, so it answers all the question, the. That there's something called attachment theory. And there's three, you know, questions. Number one is, am I enough? [00:09:35] Speaker B: Yes. [00:09:35] Speaker D: Okay, now think about what Jesus does. He says, you are. You are enough. Okay. And then, you know, the second attachment, you know, question is. Is just, well, is, you know, do I have a future? And that gets answered in the blessing. And the last one is, are you going to bail out when times get tough? So when we bless people. So the first book I did was, well, how do you tell people that they're valuable? And I did a thing with lions, otters, golden retrievers and beavers. [00:10:05] Speaker B: Yes. [00:10:06] Speaker D: And. And a personality thing that a lot of people have used over the years. And so that. That's what I've done is just continue to write books on. Okay, you want to bless them. I get that. Well, how do you do it? Well, you got to tell them. Well, how do you tell them? Well, understand who they are, and then you can help tell them what their strengths are. See what I'm getting at? [00:10:26] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:10:27] Speaker D: Long, long answer. But that any book that I've done kind of spins off of, how do you build stronger attachment? [00:10:34] Speaker B: So. So wait a second. My mind is blown right now. [00:10:37] Speaker C: You just blew Travis's mind. [00:10:39] Speaker B: So. So you're the guy that came up with the. The lion, the otter, and that entire thing. Because everyone in my. Like, I was in college, and it. I think that book hit because everyone started calling me the otter. [00:10:49] Speaker D: And I'm like, I have no idea [00:10:50] Speaker B: what you're talking about. And, like, you're such an otter. You just play all the time. And I do float on my back, and I do break shells on my chest. [00:10:59] Speaker D: Well, actually, when I first did it, when I first started teaching, so I'm in my doctoral program, and we had to create our own. I was in a class on parametric testing, which means you take a bunch of tests. But then we had to create our own. So I created a test, and it was lions, otters, golden retrievers and ducks. No, I'm sorry. Lion, otter, duck and beaver. So. Right. It was. So it was those Four animals. Right. Okay. [00:11:27] Speaker B: The duck didn't make the cut, did they? [00:11:29] Speaker D: Well, what happened was I started working with Gary Smalley. [00:11:33] Speaker B: Yes. [00:11:34] Speaker D: Great friend who's with the Lord now. But Gary pulls me aside one day and he goes, john, we got to lose the duck. I mean, nobody wanted. Nobody wanted to be a duck. But he had a golden retriever. Gary had. So Gary goes, we're switching the duck to a golden retriever. So it's lion, otter, golden retriever, and beaver. And so I do have people come up to me occasionally and go, I'm a duck, you know? Yeah. So, yeah. [00:12:04] Speaker C: That's amazing. [00:12:05] Speaker B: And what a blessing that's been. And again, gentlemen, I know that, John, you have gone on and expanded your knowledge, and you keep talking about how your brother is a smart one. I have a feeling you're pretty smart yourself. [00:12:18] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:12:18] Speaker B: I'm just saying for the record, so. But the blessing of a guy who was in high school, lost, had a broken family, God redeemed it. And the impact that that has made globally has been amazing. And so, first and foremost, John, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for being a guy who stepped into the awkward and the chaos and followed God and has impacted in some amazing ways. And gentlemen, if you're listening, [00:12:44] Speaker D: that was right. What I sent you. That is awesome. You just nailed that. Yeah, he read that. I sent that to him. [00:12:53] Speaker B: Did I do ok? [00:12:56] Speaker C: The word is the not to. He. [00:12:58] Speaker D: I sent it to Kyle and said, make sure he reads this. Make sure he reads me. [00:13:02] Speaker B: John, I love having you as a guy. [00:13:04] Speaker D: I know. [00:13:04] Speaker C: That's what I'm saying. That's why we wanted you on again. It was just so much fun. We had so much. I was like, I got to get this guy on again. But so share some of your book with us, because, man, we want these guys to come alive. Guys, if you are out there, share this with a friend. The biggest reason we do this is because you're not alone. You're not alone in this journey. You got amazing men like John that are willing to come on and just share their heart, and I hope you go and purchase these books. But, John, share. Share from one of your books, whether it's broken or blessed or that one. We'd love to hear more of the detail of it so that. So that we can promote some of what you're doing, brother. [00:13:35] Speaker D: Well, okay, but let's make it practical, too, because, you know, it's like, why. You know, why read and all that stuff? And at the end, we gotta. We gotta do These five questions, because that you have. Because one of them is, you know, what book are you reading? I know, all right, but here, all right, here's the shameless plug. Okay? So it's this book called your journey from broken to Blessed. Okay. And the reason. So, so number one is I wrote it with our oldest daughter, Carrie. So. Because we went to two different paths, you know. So what I'm getting at is I didn't grow up with the blessing. Right? But what if you grew up with the blessing? I mean, you grew up in a Christian home. People got it. You know, they knew about attachment. He tried to love you, but then you just, you're not buying it. You're not buying God, you know, there and is really there. I mean, they think he is, but you're not buying it. And then you wander off and get in this abusive relationship. And I'm telling you, man, abuse erases the blessing if you grew up with it then. And so what it is, is so I came to know Christ through brokenness, by absence. Carrie grew up with brokenness. Not that she didn't get it, but then she just wandered off. And there's a lot of kids that grow up and wander. They just don't buy it then. Yeah, lives start to fall apart, you know, and so really it's. So the two of us are writing about the fact that, man. Which is. So that's Carrie's story. Who we. We've said this, but we got to get Carrie. [00:15:12] Speaker C: We'll get her on. [00:15:13] Speaker D: Yeah, but because you. It, you know, it's so important. But I think that's really in the nutshell, is. Is why this book, I've written all these things on, well, how do you do it? But what if I never got it? [00:15:29] Speaker B: Yes. [00:15:29] Speaker D: So this is what if I never got it? And man, once you are free to. To really bless others, then, you know, that really helps because otherwise you're given something you've never given. It's a little bit harder to do that. [00:15:44] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:15:44] Speaker C: Yes. [00:15:45] Speaker B: And what I love is like, we use the language. You're blessed. But so many people, like, I had a conversation, two hour conversation with a guy who lived the hardest life he could possibly imagine in California, from drugs to dealing and everything else, was heavily involved in Mexican gangs and everything else. And now he's trying to live this blessed life and he just doesn't know what to do. And I think what your book continues to do is like, let's define it, then put some practical, like, oh, I can identify it. And things that I've received, I can own it. And things that I'm working towards, I understand better. And so many guys are like, I know Jesus forgives me, but I don't know what to do next. I don't know how this whole thing works. And that's where your book is so huge and so important. [00:16:29] Speaker C: Absolutely. So what are some practical things that we could get with these guys who are listening and saying, hey, I maybe want to pick up this book. I'm not a big reader, but, man, what is it? What could it possibly do for me as I read this book? [00:16:41] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah. Well, you know, and again, I. I listened to a lot of books, too. I mean, the book. When we get to the five questions and what's a book you're reading? It's really a book I'm listening to, you know, so they can go to audible and listen to it. And. And, you know, you. We waste so much time in the car, right? Flip on a book that. That speaks to you and what you're going to hear, you know, one. Just that whole thing about moving from broken to blessed, just in a real practical nutshell, you know, is number one, don't be afraid to look back. You know, I think for a lot of us, we go, oh, the past. That doesn't affect me, affect me, affect me. You know? You know, we don't see it affecting us, but our family does every day, you know, so I grew up, and here's what I'm getting at. I had a big anger issue growing up, okay. Now, my twin brother, everybody struggled. My older brother would, you know, eat his feelings. Of course he ended up really big, which helps when you're an offensive lineman, you know, didn't. When you quit. When you quit playing, you know, he. He ate a lot of his feelings. Jeff just tried to internalize things. Even as in high school, he was. Had ulcer things and just because he was, you know, wasn't talking about it, but I just like to hit people because, you know, that's the thing about sports. You know, I wrestled in college, I played football in high school where, because it was legal, you could hit people. You know, it was combat, you know. [00:18:12] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:18:13] Speaker D: And. But the problem with anger is what? It just ruins relationships. [00:18:18] Speaker B: Absolutely. You just end up alone. [00:18:20] Speaker D: Yeah. And it really is isolating. It breaks relationships and all the anger. So then I come to know Christ, and I didn't have any other problems with anger, you know. [00:18:30] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, of course. Of course. [00:18:31] Speaker C: Whatsoever. [00:18:32] Speaker B: Perfect healing immediately. [00:18:34] Speaker D: Yeah. And so. So can I give you one example? [00:18:39] Speaker C: Yes, yeah. [00:18:40] Speaker D: Okay. So, you know, I get all convicted. You know, we've got these two precious young kids at the time. One's like, you know, I think she's one was six. Wait, it was seven. So that would make Laura four. So I have a seven and a four year old, you know, so I'm talking to Cindy one day and I'd come back from something and I said, you know, sweetie, you know, hey, do me a favor. What's something I could work on because, you know, I want to be this godly guy, right? You know? [00:19:05] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. [00:19:06] Speaker D: Tell other people I want to, you know, she go, don't ask that to your wife. Okay. Number one is don't ask it, because she's going to come up with something in milliseconds, right? [00:19:17] Speaker B: Yes. [00:19:18] Speaker D: So I'm thinking, oh, I'll think about it and I'll get back with you, you know, instantly she goes, okay, you got to quit pointing your finger at Angers. In anger at the girls, when you get ticked at them. [00:19:29] Speaker C: Oh, wow. [00:19:30] Speaker D: And I go, what are you talking about? And she goes, when you get ticked, you know, like DEFCON 3, you know, you've warned them and now, hey, if you, you know, if you get out of bed again, that monster will, you know, I wasn't doing that. But I mean, you know. [00:19:43] Speaker B: Right, right. [00:19:44] Speaker D: So I'm pointing at my finger and I said, that's I don't do. I will prove to you that I don't do that. I go. And so I get both. I can't come on in here. I get both kids in and I go, okay, Carrie, Laura, you know, when dad occasionally, rarely, like, almost never [00:20:01] Speaker A: points [00:20:02] Speaker D: his finger at you, you know, and both of them nod their little heads, right? [00:20:06] Speaker C: You know, Right. [00:20:07] Speaker D: I go, anytime from here on out. And I reach in my, I don't have my wallet with me, but I, I, I pull up my wallet and I pull out a dollar, a bill, go. Anytime I point my finger at you in anger from here on out, you get a dollar. Okay? On the spot. Yeah. And now four little eyes get real big. They begin provoking me to anger. It wasn't, wasn't my fault, you know, and, and so, so, I mean, they're on their, they're on their way to Harvard, you know, because I'm, I'm after about 10 bucks. I realized I gotta shape up. I gotta see what I'm getting at. So I do think, I think as we move from broken to blessed, we need to figure out, okay, now you don't have to do that with your kids, some of you would go broke. I get it, you know, but, man, that was one of the most powerful things I can remember. Carrie in high school just would say, hey, point your finger at me, I need money, you know, kind of a thing. So it's just something small, but it's ways to say, okay, Lord, what am I doing that doesn't reflect you? And then how's the way I can really begin to deal with it? [00:21:19] Speaker B: It's beautiful. It's beautiful. Two things before we get to the fast five. First thing is this, gentlemen. If you. I think that blessing book is. Is very prescient for the time that we are in. And so if you find yourself and you can't afford that book or that audible book, info onelikes.org please, we will absolutely sponsor you and we will get you that information so you have a chance to dive into it and receive the blessings from that book. Number two, is this. What's your one takeaway from the. This conversation today? What. What's your one call to action? [00:21:49] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. John, what would you say is the call to action today for those guys that are listening? [00:21:54] Speaker D: Oh, well, you know, you know, I mean, a great way to do it is just to say, okay, Lord, I want to love you. Now let me do a check on how I'm doing. Just sit down with your wife and go, okay, now, I know There may be 15 things. I just need one. And don't pick the biggest one. But what's something. What's something I can do? Actions dictate feelings, not the reverse. You know, don't wait. Well, when I feel like it, I'll change. No. Okay, what are some things maybe I could work on? And boy, when Cindy told me I got it, just how small that was. That's really pretty small, isn't it? You know, I wasn't doing it all the time, but I mean, I do it when I realized, you know, I want to bless them, I don't want to dishonor them. And so, okay, I can deal with that. So that would be the takeaway is just man up and say, okay, what's something I could work on? And then get a friend. You guys mentioned this. Get a friend. So Jim McGuire, I'm gonna have breakfast then later on. He's my board chairman. We've been friends for a hundred years. And. But when I did that finger pointing thing, guess who I talked to was Jim McGuire. And I said, okay, Jim, I'm doing this with the kids to help them, so help me I need to work on this anger thing. So. So those are the two. Those are two takeaways, but those are the two. I think I love it. [00:23:21] Speaker B: It's the. You're talking about the wake up stuff that we're always encouraging guys like wake up to those hidden things that God is redeeming and transforming you from. So. [00:23:30] Speaker C: Yeah. Which I think is a great thing. I mean it also ties in with our wake up guide and seven day reset of going to be below. It's a free resource for you as much as John's book is going to be a great, great resource. But make sure you check those two out below in the session notes. John, this has been awesome. [00:23:46] Speaker B: Thank you, John. [00:23:46] Speaker C: And sorry that we shotgunned this, but I'd love to jump into our fast five. Yeah, awesome. So John, what is the current book that you're reading right now? [00:23:56] Speaker D: Okay. All right. And remember. [00:23:58] Speaker B: Or listening to or listening to. [00:24:00] Speaker D: I remember it's okay to listen to something. [00:24:03] Speaker C: Yes. [00:24:03] Speaker D: That still counts. Okay. Yeah. So I'm listening to a book. Have you ever heard of a book called Living Life Backwards? [00:24:11] Speaker C: No. [00:24:12] Speaker D: Oh my gosh. Okay. I envy you. The chance to listen to the first time because. And you got to listen to it because the guy's from Ireland and it's. Oh my God, it gives you 20 extra IQ points just because you have a British or a, you know, in this case an Irish accent. You know, that's awesome. But basically what he. It's a whole. It's a book on a. Ecclesiastes and. Which is so hard to understand, you know, I mean, come on. That's really a tough book. It's like Job. Try to get something out of Job. Right. Okay. Well, it's the best book I've ever list to read on Ecclesiastes because it says, man, once you understand what death is, you have the key to life. Now this is again, life in Christ. It's phenomenal in terms of just. So that's the book Living Life Backwards. It's like. Okay, what, what? I don't want to spoil it for you, but man, it is one of the best spiritual formation books. How do you really live life? Well, you know. Well, man, deal with the ultimate issues and it's. It's really phenomenal. [00:25:24] Speaker C: Living Life Backwards. [00:25:27] Speaker B: We'll go with that. [00:25:28] Speaker C: We'll go with it. Perfect. Awesome. Number two, what's something you're excited about in life right. Right now? [00:25:35] Speaker D: Well, you know, again, for the first time we've got all of our kids and grandkids in the same state with us. [00:25:42] Speaker B: What a blessing. [00:25:43] Speaker D: So last night we were at a six year old birthday party, but everybody was there instead of FaceTiming. [00:25:51] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, that's beautiful. [00:25:52] Speaker D: Yeah, so that's really awesome. [00:25:54] Speaker C: It's kind of a funny thing, like no one has ever said what excites me is getting on Facebook in the morning. It's always about kids or family. I love it. [00:26:01] Speaker B: I love it. [00:26:01] Speaker C: All right, number three. If you could pick one decade to go back to, what would it be? [00:26:07] Speaker D: Yeah, you know, I've never been good at going back. You know, it's that old satchel. Things don't look back because it could be gaining on you, you know. [00:26:15] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:26:16] Speaker D: And you know, so I mean, I mean, this is the best one. I've always, always been awesome. This is the best decade. And so, you know, plus for me it could be the last. You never know, you know? [00:26:28] Speaker C: I hope not. [00:26:29] Speaker D: I know. [00:26:29] Speaker B: Ex. [00:26:31] Speaker C: I hope not too. We would love to have you on again and again and again. So, man, I love it. Okay, what's your favorite fast food right now, [00:26:42] Speaker D: you know, it's easy to say, you know. Okay, now if, if I'm, if I'm with Cindy, it's this thing called sweet greens. Because it's like, you know, really healthy. Okay. But when Cindy's, when, if Cindy's out of town or something, I'm going to Cane's. [00:26:58] Speaker B: You know, their sauce is so good. [00:27:01] Speaker C: I get the four by the four, like the box combo and I get an extra sauce because they're incredible. [00:27:06] Speaker B: So that's the coleslaw. Coleslaw. [00:27:10] Speaker C: I like the coleslaw. [00:27:11] Speaker A: I do. [00:27:11] Speaker D: I get the coleslaw. The chicken. [00:27:13] Speaker C: Yeah, that's my man right there. He knows what's up. So awesome. Number five. If you could give one piece of advice to yourself when you were younger, what would it be? [00:27:22] Speaker D: Well, you know, again, the best advice, I don't know if it was advice, but the best decision I made, kind of, and that I would give myself to make the same decision was I would look at this guy that led me to Christ, Doug Barum, who loved Jesus and he treated. Now I was used to treating people very poorly. Okay, Right. And, and was full of anger and all this stuff. Well, I would look, he would walk up to these kids were total losers and treat them like they were really valuable. And I remember when I came to know Christ, I thought, you know what? I'm. I want to treat people. I'm going to try to serve people and love people like this guy. It was the best decision because really what it was, he was. He was just loving him like Jesus loved him. And so I just picked somebody that gave me a picture of that and realized that's where it's coming from. So that would be. That'd be it, man. Pick somebody that's doing a great job of doing it and you're not gonna. I'm never gonna be as good as Doug Barum, but, you know, but I've become more like Christ because I saw somebody doing it and at least it gave me a picture of what I could do. [00:28:38] Speaker B: Awesome, man. [00:28:39] Speaker C: Well, I would say, Doug, I think you have some. Doug has some good competition in you, if I'll be honest with you. And man, this has been life giving. John, we'll have you on again, hopefully for sure, with your daughter. [00:28:51] Speaker D: Doug Barham's 86. We had a Doug and I had to get on with you. That was. [00:28:55] Speaker C: Yes. Yeah. I mean, we'd love to. That'd be amazing. Your guy. Oh, my gosh. That would be like life dead. That's literally what we talk about. So he's still. [00:29:02] Speaker D: He's still doing. He's still the same guy. Yeah, that would be really fun. [00:29:05] Speaker C: Oh, let's do it. All right, let's do it. [00:29:07] Speaker D: Let you guys go. But Lord bless you. And man, thank you for having me on. [00:29:10] Speaker C: Thank you so much. [00:29:11] Speaker B: Every time. It's divine appointment. [00:29:13] Speaker C: So good. I love it. And man, I mean, John, thank you so much for your time, brother. I know you might. You might to jump right off, but man, we are so grateful. Guys, make sure that you pick up John's book. We'll put the link in the bio. Check out that. That Wake Up Guide and seven day reset. Join our men's study and please share this with some of your friends because we know that you're not alone in this. We're not alone in this. We're still trying to figure this out too. [00:29:37] Speaker B: Right in our journey. Amen. [00:29:39] Speaker C: And so, Travis, final thoughts. [00:29:40] Speaker B: Time is short. It's time to wake up, gear up, and come alive.
