Some encouragement there and just a place to be. Conn, we really want you to not do this journey alone. And that's why we do this podcast too, correct? [00:02:38] Speaker B: That is exactly it. So without further ado, let's get to the question of the day. Question. [00:02:43] Speaker C: I almost took my coffee. Question of the day. [00:02:47] Speaker B: It's so awesome. So as we help you wake up, gear up and come alive, here's the question of the day. What is your current muse, your current infatuation, your current. Oh, what do the kids say? Binge worthy media that you're all into, whether it be a TV show and or a movie or in a short series, you might say. So where are you at? I'll go first on this, okay. Because I never go first. I always ask a question, then have a chance to think about it. This one, my wife and I, we didn't stumble onto this one. We were really excited about this one coming out for a while. And we are two episodes in and we are thoroughly, thoroughly enjoying Dutton Ranch. It is Rip and Beth and their journeys from Montana to Texas as ranchers. And it is all the goods. We love it. We love it. We're so excited. The story writing is good. The characters are already developed and I just, I love Rip. If I could be someone else, I'd be Rip. [00:03:45] Speaker C: I think you just spoiled the end of my show that I wanted to watch. Oh, no, I'm finishing episode season five of Yellowstone. [00:03:52] Speaker B: Oh, no, that won't ruin anything. Okay, good, good, Good enough. [00:03:55] Speaker C: It won't ruin because we're like, I wanted to finish it. Well, I realized they had done like the like, so mine is Yellowstone, just so you know. And they had done like the. [00:04:05] Speaker B: Oh, by the way, just, just so for public announcement, these are shows that we are watching. We are not recommending these show. And so if you're on a journey yeah. You may not want to see these shows. These are not necessarily, you know, but for. For us who are comfortable with our own depravity. [00:04:21] Speaker C: If you use expressive. Don't like you don't necessarily represent those. No, I. I think that's mine right now. And I mean, because I think I just needed completion. [00:04:30] Speaker B: Oh, it's so good. [00:04:31] Speaker C: And you're like, you're trying to finish it out. And so I realized I was talking to someone and I was like, yeah. I go, did they. Did they come up with a season six? Because there was like a cattle drive. And then they're like, no, the other half of season five. There's another half of season five. So we're finally watching it and. And see things off. Which has definitely been right from the beginning. Like, I feel like it's a new season. [00:04:50] Speaker B: Yes. [00:04:50] Speaker C: They should have just made it a season and been like, oh, okay. But yeah, anyways, I'm in. I'm in. I'm enjoying it to the most part. So. Yeah. And I'm excited to see because I did see Dutton Ranches out and Marshalls not as good. Okay. So I haven't seen either of those Marshalls. [00:05:04] Speaker B: Is. Is detective show trope over and over again. [00:05:08] Speaker C: And it's the brother. [00:05:10] Speaker B: Yeah. It's okay. It's okay. But he was never a really deep character anyway. [00:05:14] Speaker C: No, he wasn't. He was always kind of the side guy. [00:05:15] Speaker B: Yeah. And some of the supporting characters. I haven't been it. My wife loves it and I fall asleep every episode. [00:05:23] Speaker C: That'll. [00:05:23] Speaker B: That'll tell you what I'm thinking. [00:05:24] Speaker C: But I like Rip Although every time I see him, I still think of good. Of him and good. Good Will Hunting. [00:05:30] Speaker B: So welcome to the Yellowstone podcast. We're happy you're here today. And let's tell you all about how Beth is our spirit. Like, we all want Beth to show up at some time. [00:05:40] Speaker C: She takes care of business. That's all I do now. [00:05:42] Speaker B: Yeah, she does. [00:05:43] Speaker C: What about you, man? What's your thing? [00:05:44] Speaker D: Our big thing. And I'm going to include my wife in this. But we love Dexter. [00:05:49] Speaker B: Okay. Okay. We are all into like these really [00:05:54] Speaker C: dumb expressed on any of these are [00:05:56] Speaker D: we do not reckon, you know, one away because he. I don't want to give anything. [00:06:01] Speaker C: Okay, good. Yeah. [00:06:02] Speaker D: It supposedly ended right. And then there was then Dexter resurrection and now they're making another one for this year. [00:06:09] Speaker B: So don't they have like young Dexter [00:06:11] Speaker D: too or they did the young one and. Yeah. [00:06:13] Speaker C: Oh, really? [00:06:14] Speaker B: Like young Sheldon. [00:06:15] Speaker C: Is that Dexter's Laboratory or no, we [00:06:18] Speaker B: love that with a powder puff girls. [00:06:21] Speaker C: Yes. Oh, man. Well, we're glad you're still here with us. If you have a great, if you have a favorite show, please put it in the comments. We'd love to, to find something else to binge because you just go through them, you're like, okay, what, what do I do now? [00:06:34] Speaker B: And I will tell you just now. I've come up with the future question of the day. [00:06:39] Speaker C: Future question of the day. [00:06:41] Speaker B: And it's going to be this what locked in cartoon. Would you or could you watch forever? That's it. That's it. And only one of us can call Looney Tunes and it's me. But that's another question for another day. Another question for another day. [00:06:55] Speaker C: Okay, we'll do it. [00:06:55] Speaker B: Another question for another day. [00:06:56] Speaker C: Tune in for another known legacy podcast because we have another question. They like that. [00:07:00] Speaker B: And there's a 99% chance I'll forget that question by the end of this podcast and we'll never circle back to it. [00:07:05] Speaker C: But we're going to try. [00:07:06] Speaker B: We will try. [00:07:07] Speaker C: Yes, we will try. I should make a note right now. [00:07:09] Speaker B: Okay, so interesting as we get into the conversation today about AI I just saw, you know, because C Span is my other TV show that I love to watch. I'm just kidding. [00:07:19] Speaker C: I was gonna say, do you like fiction or no, but they have and [00:07:24] Speaker B: I would agree with this. There's, they're currently talking about current education within America and what's going on and stuff like that. And one of the things that their, their data is starting to prove is this is the first time that in recorded history where the previous generation has more wisdom and intelligence than the generation that currently is being educated within school. So we're graduating kids. So you say we're getting dumber. Yes. Okay, we are. We are getting dumber and slower and stupid, stupid, stupid stupidity. And, and I, I think that kind of plays into this conversation about AI. [00:07:57] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:07:58] Speaker B: Technology in general. Because here's another interesting fact in, you know, for a long time school districts and school boards were very passionate about a one to one meaning every kid has their own Chromebook. Right. And every kid is, is on technology. And Argyle, to their credit, is beginning to shift away from that. And now in the junior high, sixth, seventh and eighth grade, they're actually going back to workbooks. [00:08:24] Speaker C: I heard about this. I heard that a lot of schools are actually rejecting the technology and going back to textbooks. [00:08:30] Speaker B: Right, right. Because they're realizing it's not producing the fruit that it was promised to produce and that we have to change. So kudos to the school districts that are wrestling with that, starting to make that. But I do think this AI thing is a legit thing that we've got to wrestle with. [00:08:44] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:08:44] Speaker B: How do we with wisdom discern this within our church? Because again, you can't put the genie back in the bottle. It is out, it is available. [00:08:51] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:08:52] Speaker B: And we are using it. Our kids are light years ahead of us in it, but that doesn't mean they're smarter, and it definitely doesn't mean they're wiser. And God's heart is that we would be wise in the ways of the world, not just smart, specific things within the world. Does that make sense? [00:09:06] Speaker C: Oh, I'm whole. I'm wholeheartedly with you. I, you know, even, you know, as I, as I look, I'm seeing more people are using it as a counseling tool, which, which is really interesting. And I'm not. [00:09:16] Speaker B: What do you mean by that? [00:09:17] Speaker C: Like, they're going to it for counseling. In fact, it says that 22% of adults use AI therapy apps. Over 50% use Chat GPT for mental health support. [00:09:28] Speaker B: What? [00:09:29] Speaker C: Yeah. Mental health market is growing like crazy. It says 36% of Gen Z and millennials show interest versus 28% of us. Older people are like, we're good. We don't. We almost like, fight. Fight the old reality. [00:09:41] Speaker B: Overall, it says we've seen Terminator. [00:09:43] Speaker C: Exactly. [00:09:43] Speaker B: We've lived Matrix. [00:09:45] Speaker C: Exactly. [00:09:46] Speaker B: We have an inbred rejection of, of Skynet and everything. [00:09:50] Speaker C: Oh, my gosh. [00:09:51] Speaker B: This can get do, right? [00:09:52] Speaker C: Yes. [00:09:53] Speaker B: Yes. [00:09:53] Speaker C: I don't have 5,000 sun block. And if you know what that is. [00:09:55] Speaker B: So maybe this summer, what you need to do is sit down your kids. Yeah, sit down, your kids. Sit down. Meet dumb. Sit down, your kids. [00:10:04] Speaker C: Sit down. Well, maybe you can, you can sit [00:10:06] Speaker B: down, your kids, sit your kids down and have them watch some of those movies and just say, this is what's gonna happen. [00:10:13] Speaker C: I know, I'm with you. But it said that 73% of our negative have a negative reaction to the fact that they cite a lack of human connection. [00:10:24] Speaker B: Oh. [00:10:24] Speaker C: And I think that's the biggest thing that we want to touch on. I don't have a negative, completely negative view on AI. It's a tool that can be used. But I think we've made it such a, a, a benchmark of us. In fact, I think at one point, like, the number one song was an AI generated song. [00:10:44] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:10:44] Speaker C: And then the bots made it a number one song. Like so AI Supported AI by making it this song. And you're like. And it kills. [00:10:52] Speaker B: Everything's gonna end splendid. Let me tell you. [00:10:55] Speaker C: Well, and having a lot of friends who are singer songwriters. [00:10:57] Speaker B: Right. [00:10:58] Speaker C: Even myself, I noticed that in my first book I would write, and I didn't use any AI And I still don't use AI for it. But it's almost like it weakens the muscle. [00:11:08] Speaker B: Correct. [00:11:08] Speaker C: Of creativity in people. But the first thing, it's like, man, how do we establish clear boundaries with AI And I think this is kind of. We're talking about establishing clear boundaries with AI we're not up here going, this is wrong to use it. But what's the length? Right. Where's the line? [00:11:24] Speaker B: So I think it was CS Lewis who used this illustration. I think it's kind of helpful today. And it's the idea of a hammer. Right. Like a hammer was created to do a very specific thing, but a hammer can do a lot of other things too. It wasn't necessarily created for that. So a hammer can build. A hammer can hammer. A hammer is designed to plunge a nail through two pieces of wood to hold it together to ultimately create something good, useful, and beneficial. Right? [00:11:48] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:11:49] Speaker B: But when you inject human nature into the hammer, all of a sudden the hammer can be used as a. As a weapon. The hammer can be used as a bludgeoning tool. The hammer can become very evil. [00:12:01] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:12:02] Speaker B: Though it was never intended to be evil. Be cared down. [00:12:05] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:12:05] Speaker B: The heart of man never tires of figuring out new ways for depravity and evil. Amen. [00:12:12] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:12:13] Speaker B: And so that's what our conversation was. So we are not standing on the wall saying, you know, reject all AI but what we are saying is we need to, as a culture, have conversations, particularly with our kids, of how to discern this tool that we currently have and we're discovering within our culture to. To help and to benefit and realize that the tool now has the autonomy to become the weapon if we're not careful and we don't have the wisdom to discern between when it's being a helpful tool and when it's self discovering to become a weapon against us. [00:12:51] Speaker C: And I'll stand pretty strong on this because, man, years of working with people, yes, we can share information with them. It doesn't change them near as much as the relationship. And I think that's where the first boundary is, that AI is a helper, not a healer. [00:13:08] Speaker B: Love it. [00:13:09] Speaker C: And so if we're going to it with, I need you to answer my questions. You Know we all put our hope in something. [00:13:16] Speaker B: Right. [00:13:16] Speaker C: We all do. And I hope that if you're listening to this, you're putting your hope in Jesus Christ. Correct. You're not even putting your hope in this podcast. Like that's the thing. Like, you see, watch. You know, more and more that, you know that, that podcasts, people use these things. But even here we want to build a relationship with you. [00:13:31] Speaker B: Correct. [00:13:31] Speaker C: But that's why we have other things out there, like our studies that we do and like our get togethers that we do each. That we're trying to do each month. [00:13:39] Speaker B: Adrenaline beer stein. [00:13:40] Speaker C: There it is. Whatever is adrenaline shot. Killing me. But we want you to realize that community, like all of these things are not going to be the essential end [00:13:54] Speaker B: all for you cannot replace the very gifts that God has established from the creation of humanity. And that is this idea. It is not good for man to be alone. [00:14:02] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:14:03] Speaker B: And unfortunately, what AI allows us to do is to live an illusion of community when there is none there. [00:14:09] Speaker C: Yeah, it is. [00:14:10] Speaker B: It is not. And so I hear what you saying, like, it can be a helper. [00:14:13] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:14:14] Speaker B: But it can't be a healer. Because where does healing take place? It takes place in community. [00:14:18] Speaker C: Community. [00:14:18] Speaker B: It takes place in relationship. It takes place in those conversations. It takes place in Pict. Picking up the unspoken, the micro expressions, if you will. The. The things that you can only get from community. Sitting across from someone and you know, having those touches in those feels. [00:14:36] Speaker C: Yeah. You know, there's something about someone else walking in. Like. Like when we, when we're having. I'm having a bad day. And you're like, hey, you don't. Something's wrong. And I'm like, no, I'm good. You're like, that's where it changes. [00:14:47] Speaker B: Right. [00:14:47] Speaker C: AI is not going to go, hey, I noticed something wrong with you today. You know what I'm saying? Like, sorry, that's my best AI voice that I could get. But this idea of this, there's something that's going to be missing. And so I would challenge you. If you're out there and you're using AI as a tool to bring help, you could probably fight me and say, no, it's helpful. And here's what, like, I get it. But being fully known is something that someone's. Someone's searching out you to say, I want to get to the core of who you are. Not. I just need information from you. Right. And AI is only going to bring information. In fact, someone told me that, like right now in America, the servers are going crazy because Americans say thank you at the end of AI. Yes. And they're like, I don't. I don't understand this. Like, they're like, AI is like, I don't know how to compute a thank you because it's a physical. But we want a physical response. We want that. Oh, you're well. And I even know that I put it in one time and I had. I had some notes for things. Can you just clean this up for me? Yeah, just clean it up. Here's all the information. Like, I literally gave everything versus everything. I said, clean it up. And then at the end of it, they're fixing AI And AI said, oh, I think this will be a great breakout session, probably the best one of the weekend. And I'm like, what? No, I just need you to give me it for. [00:16:01] Speaker B: I don't need courage. [00:16:02] Speaker C: I don't need your affirmation. So. So, guys, we are. If you're out there and you are alone, do not use AI as a. As a healer. Use it as a helper. [00:16:13] Speaker B: So BBC has a really difficult series called Black Mirror. And if you've ever watched any of them, they can be pretty intense. And one of them, I think, hits us. Exactly. And I'll try and summarize it quickly. Wife is married. Her husband passes away. She's pregnant when he passes away. And so through a friend who works for a Google or whatever the company is in the. In the BBC episode, they can. She can reconnect with her deceased husband through uploading all of his social media. And then they create an illusion. It's an illusion of him. And she can interact with him through text messages. And so she does that. And then it progresses to. Well, now if you upload like 20 minutes of video, you can actually talk to him because we understand who he's supposed to be. So then she starts calling him and stuff like that. And then later on, ultimately it advances. Five years later, the kid's six or seven. And it's a. We can do an autonomous robot that's been uploaded with him and his personality that we know from social media. And so she's going through this morning of losing her husband without ever getting the healing of going through the morning because she's staying connected to this illusion of who her husband presented himself to be on social media. Right. [00:17:33] Speaker C: So weird. [00:17:34] Speaker B: And of course I'm not going to tell you how it ends, but it's that great illustration of again, like, in the short term, it seems so innocent [00:17:42] Speaker C: band aiding it, but in the long [00:17:44] Speaker B: Term, it's not going to bring the true community healing and connectedness that we were made for as humans. [00:17:52] Speaker C: Well, it's funny because that, that bleeds into number two, which says prioritize physical community. That elevates biological eye contact over high definition screens. Like this idea of like, man, this, this kind of high definition screen interaction of like, I'm just looking at something. Correct. Because even, even at that point you can be, it's funny how many things are fake. They say like three out of three out of five things, whether you like or disagree on the Internet politically or whatever, are fake. They're all AI. And in fact, I saw a video yesterday, me and my wife and I was like, I was telling about, I said, there's a, there's a guy and he had all those kind of like those dots for the AI thing where they would like project a different face. And it was this beautiful girl on the other side, but it's this guy and you're like, you saw that? And so, so it's this, guys, if there's something about having flesh and blood next to you, there's something different because the flesh and blood is where the spirit lives, right? And so, so the spirit of God indwelled in us so that when, even when Jesus came to earth, he didn't send a book on his own and say, check it out guys, right? It's like he dwelt among man. And us as followers of Jesus need to remember that if we're just spending our time online trying to get all the information from here, like I could, we could do all these things online to make this podcast blow up and all this stuff and, and man. And honestly, if I kind of rejected it myself, maybe coming from the Gen Xer and the. [00:19:12] Speaker B: Right, right. [00:19:13] Speaker C: You know, all the things of watching Terminator crush the skulls and all that, you know that because it really like, I just, but it's more than that. It's, it's, it's, it lacks the spirit's involvement, right? And so having that, so prioritizing engagement with each other, how do we do that? That's, that's part of this journey. How do we do that? We have to step out in faith and go God part. Being a part of a local church, being a part of a local community of people that, that see my greatest interest, we cannot do this alone. So if you're in your house, you find yourself, hey, I found myself 90% of the time sitting in my house looking online. You need physical community, correct? [00:19:49] Speaker B: Correct. And so find a Place that you can do that. [00:19:51] Speaker C: Yes. [00:19:51] Speaker B: Find a hobby, find something that you can engage with other people and it's gonna be awkward, it's gonna be hard, it's gonna be complicated. Humans are awkward and complicated. I get it. [00:19:59] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:19:59] Speaker B: But because it's simple and easy doesn't mean it's right and efficacious. [00:20:04] Speaker C: Yeah. Yes. [00:20:05] Speaker B: So, so you need. [00:20:06] Speaker C: And then, and then the other thing is even there's times when I will search on, on chat GPT or whatever with the idea that this is going to give me my answer. [00:20:15] Speaker B: Right. [00:20:15] Speaker C: Like what is the blue. And now there's, there's statistics. [00:20:18] Speaker B: It can kick start an idea. [00:20:20] Speaker C: Yes, yes. But I think the, the, the third thing is always get your truth from the scriptures. It's still got to be our basis. [00:20:28] Speaker B: Correct. [00:20:29] Speaker C: We've got to walk in this. If you're walking in going, this is where my hope is. This is where my true, you know, oh, I looked up on chat gbt, now you can say, hey, when was the war of 1812, whatever it was, you know, and so like you can, you can look up truth and facts, but you can, but you cannot. I, I would challenge you to say where does my, where does my basis of truth lie? Like you know, the longest time they were like Newsweek will lie to you back in the day when magazines came out, they can lie to you. Obviously mainstream media is a very reliable [00:21:01] Speaker B: source of very, very. [00:21:04] Speaker C: So, so let's lean into the truth of God's word and go, I'm going to go here. But then when I look at this, my perspective, my prose is this is not going to be my end all if whatever AI is saying modified in there by somebody. My truth has to come from the word of God. [00:21:20] Speaker D: Correct. [00:21:20] Speaker C: So that I know that because even in there again talks about the value. It's not good for man to be alone. And that's not just husband, wife, that's we're not supposed to be alone. [00:21:28] Speaker B: Well, what you alluded to is the fact that this is not a new issue and this is not a new problem. [00:21:31] Speaker C: Right. [00:21:32] Speaker B: The father of lies, Satan, who whispered a lie to Eve that got this whole thing kicked off. Right. And Adam was complicit in that lie. He is still trying to figure out ways to lie to us and he uses any number of tools to make that happen. Whether it be our own conversation that we're having in our head or be through media or whether it be through social media or through AI. He is always looking for ways to lie to us, to manipulate us and to ultimately pull us away from the love and the truth of Jesus and his word. And so that's where I think you're right on. [00:22:03] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:22:03] Speaker B: We need to make sure that we're mentioning who know the word of God. Trust the word of God because it is trustworthy and let that shape inform us, not something that is designed to manipulate us. [00:22:16] Speaker C: Absolutely. Because it will. Nothing will ever be as good as human connection. And that's our biggest thing is as you're approaching this now, you might find yourself going, man, I use chatgpt 8, 10, 12 times a day. It's fine. If you're walking from the. If you're looking at it from the right perspective, like, this isn't my hope, this is my truth. But if you found yourself going, oh my gosh, I feel like this whole muscle is weak because I'm just going, write me an email that said that. Which can be fine, but I would challenge you to keep the muscle growing in yourself, especially. Again, I'm a creative and I'm like, there's times I'll get up and I'll start writing. I'm trying to write a new book right now and I'm like, where do I start? Yeah. And I really want to go, hey, ChatGPT, what are the 11 things I need? Instead Going, what if I just started building that muscle again? Correct through relationship and connect. So if you're stuck out there, the one challenge I would have, and this might sound really silly, your next email, don't ask ChatGPT, just write it. Right. Start to rebuild the muscle of having human interaction in this. Right. And that might sound arbitrary, but get yourself back on course with engaging people. [00:23:16] Speaker B: Love it. [00:23:17] Speaker C: If you find yourself broken and you're like, I am going to this all the time. I'm finding a dependency or a co dependency. Move our dependency back to the word of God. [00:23:25] Speaker B: Correct. [00:23:26] Speaker C: Move our dependency back to relationships. It's a discipleship thing. [00:23:29] Speaker B: Correct. [00:23:29] Speaker C: We've said here, I'm going to shove either can shove a bunch of information to you the same problems that the church are having. Discipleship. Discipleship is just passing information. Or is it not just sharing our very lives, not just the gospel, but our very lives with you. And so I guess that's the encouragement final thoughts from you, man. [00:23:44] Speaker B: Yeah, I think, yeah, like it's the hammer, man. It is good and useful in the right context, in the right ways and it can also be very destructive. And so pray for wisdom and discernment for you guys as you navigate this, not just for us, but also for our kids and starting to have these conversations with our kids and learning to discern when we're being manipulated, learning to discern when it's a fake AI, when it's a fake story, when it's a fake manipulation is going to be helpful for us in the weeks and months and years to come. [00:24:15] Speaker C: Yeah. From John Connor, we believe in you guys. We just know that this is a real subject, it's a real issue. And man, our kids are leaning into it now. So if we don't talk about it, if we don't bring up the conversation with them, who will? And so, guys, we believe in you. Hey, stay connected to us. Check out the links below.
